My mom and I went here for the Thanksgiving prefix dinner.
Ambience: cute, dimly lit, sort of Art Deco. Enjoyable, not overly fancy, but definitely not a dump.
Service: our server was polite and attentive, no complaints about the staff. Arrived early, because I wasn't 100% confident in my subway navigating, and the hostess cheerfully sat us early. It was a busy evening, but there was some open space.
Food: the food was good, I had the lobster in curried butter which was wonderful, and my mom opted for the their more traditional turkey. We had oysters which were fresh and delicious. The razor clam was also good. We did get skipped on the bread that came with the menu, but we were full, and probably didn't need it, but it looked delicious.
Wine: mostly, if not all, French. We had a sparkling rose and a Pinot noir, both enjoyable. But to quote parent trap, "I am partial to the softer California grape." Haha
Overall, a lovely place, good food and service. I am not sure if why it has so many three stars, a lot of people complained about oddly shaped steak knives. We got the knife, I see the issue, but guys... it's a knife, you'll manage. -

Ate here for dinner recently and was somewhat disappointed. The place has a bit of an identity crisis as if it doesn't know whether it's fine dining or a bistro.
The menu presents and reads like fine dining, and prices do too, but bare, unattractive tables, wine glasses that should be for water, and the most ridiculous "upside down" steak knife you'll ever use leave you feeling either they're trying too hard to keep it casual or just simply making poor choices.
When I asked the server for a sharper steak knife he said: "Oh you're using the wrong side, it's 'upside down'. Don't worry, everyone does that". Do they? Then change the knives.
Listen, all in all a good meal, and the kitchen can definitely cook. But for what amounted to $200 a head, I won't be hurrying back soon. -

Welp, still got it.
I was glad to revisit Frenchette after about a year since my last visit and it was as proper as ever. In fact, I was able to snag the two same bar seats as my first visit and all the beautiful nostalgia came pouring back.
What I love most about this place (aside from the food) is the wine list. It's super nerdy and not for the faint of heart. You won't find any mainstream wines on this list but rather a bunch of natural wines from all over the globe.
The food is stellar. You can see by my photos that we had a proper little lunch and it ended up lasting almost 4 hours. That's my kind of afternoon! Oh, you know who was sitting next to me and was quite lovely...? Kerri Russell. Sweetheart.
Don't read into the bad reviews. Is it expensive? Yes, but we'll worth the price tag. -

We had reservations for Sunday brunch and were seated right away. I ordered the oeuf au plat, which was a baked egg dish with mortadella, comte cheese and crispy baguette. It was so unctuous and comforting. My husband ordered the roast chicken and raved it was delicious.
The wine served are all natural wines - I tried two different whites that I did NOT like - before I fell in love with the rose. Our server was patient and wanted to make sure that I got a wine that I enjoyed.
For dessert, we perused the dessert options, but ended up deciding on the pancake (after hearing another table next to us order a pancake "for the table"). This was a wonderful decision - the pancake is something you should order - and it is perfect for sharing. Sweet and buttery goodness.
Despite all of the hype of this place, our dining experience felt very warm, friendly and easy like a Sunday morning ought to be. -

Not a lot to say about this place--I was expecting an excellent meal and I was severely underwhelmed.
The best thing we had was definitely the chitarra pasta, which had some good flavors and was cooked well.
However, the duck that we were served was definitely overcooked--so much so that the fat had been turned into an inedible tough mess, which was unfortunate--especially since it was such a pricey dish.
Also--the swordfish was very uninspired and left a lot to be desired in terms of flavor and the portion was small.
Look at the pics for yourself--this type of place I am expecting something delicious for both my mouth and my eyes and this was neither.
Not sure if we just hit a bad night, but I can easily say this was one of my most disappointing meals since I have been in NYC.
